Morocco Atlas mountains & Desert tour – 6 days / 5 nights
A Saharan adventure among Berber villages, giant dunes, and secret valleys.
In the morning, the red city recedes into the distance. Very quickly, the winding roads of the Tichka Pass open the doors to another world: one of ochre kasbahs, villages clinging to the mountains, and valleys where time seems to have stood still.
Over the course of several days, this tour takes you through contrasting landscapes—from the Atlas Mountains to the palm grove of M’Hamid, from the Todra Gorge to the immense dunes of Chegaga—for a gradual immersion into the Saharan world, between untamed nature and nomadic hospitality. A powerful journey that connects mountains to sands, traditions to wide open spaces.

Day 1: Marrakech – Aït Benhaddou – High Atlas
Early departure from Marrakech. The road climbs the slopes of the High Atlas, crossing the Tichka Pass (2,260 m), between sharp bends and breathtaking panoramas. You then reach Aït Benhaddou, an emblematic ksar listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. After lunch, we head for the southern foothills of the Atlas Mountains, where we settle into a peaceful inn. A hike at the end of the day takes you through the Vallée des Roses and its Berber hamlets.
Dinner and overnight stay at an inn.
Day 2: High Atlas – Dades and Todra Gorges
After breakfast, you head for the Dades and Todra gorges. The ochre cliffs sculpted by time provide the ideal terrain for a spectacular walk.
Return to the inn in the afternoon.
Free time, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: High Atlas – M’Hamid
You leave the mountains to descend into the desert. En route, visit an ancient kasbah, then continue on to M’Hamid, a remote village at the gateway to the Sahara. Settle into a fixed bivouac and savor the moment: silence, sand and infinite sky.
Dinner and night in the desert.
Day 4: M’Hamid – Erg Chegaga
Departure by 4×4 through the lunar landscapes of the Sahara. Lunch in a shady oasis or with a nomad family. In mid-afternoon, you reach Erg Chegaga: Morocco’s largest and most spectacular expanse of dunes. A camel ride allows you to admire the sunset from the sandy heights.
Dinner at the desert camp, singing around the fire, night in tents or under the stars.
Day 5: Erg Chegaga – Foum Zguid – Ouarzazate
After breakfast, cross the desert plateau of Lake Iriki, then stop off at the village of Foum Zguid. Lunch in Taznakht, a mecca for traditional Berber weaving. At the end of the day, arrival in Ouarzazate.
